Protecting Yourself from Fraud

Credit Union West is committed to protecting our members from fraud and scams.
The most important line of defense is being aware.

Seven Tips to Protect Yourself From Frauds and Scams

Every year scammers and identity thieves steal billions of dollars from unsuspecting consumers. Some by stealing your information and some by convincing you to willingly provide your information. Learning how to spot common scams and protecting your information can prevent you from becoming a victim.

We are here to help you reach your financial goals and to arm you with the knowledge to protect yourself from fraud and scams. This holiday season and every day, follow these tips to protect yourself:

  • Download the Credit Union West app* to monitor your account and set up alerts to notify you of transactions

  • Never send money to someone you do not know

  • To prevent a hacker from gaining access to your accounts, create unique usernames and passwords for all your accounts and financial relationships

  • Keep your computer and mobile devices up to date with software

  • Always lock your computer and other devices when you are not using them

  • Be cautious and skeptical when you receive offers that are too good to be true

  • Don’t open attachments and links from emails you don’t know

Anyone is vulnerable to and can fall victim to fraud and scams. Please be aware, Credit Union West would never ask for sensitive information like your social security number, account number, debit card PIN or your passwords, especially through an unsolicited call, email or message through social media. If this should ever happen to you, contact our Member Contact Center at 1-800-621-0287.

You can stay up to date on scams by subscribing to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Scam Alerts.
